NEW YORK — Carolina Herrera’s first beauty public appearance in several years proved to be worth the wait.
Herrera, who greeted a crowd of more than 250 fans Tuesday at Saks Fifth Avenue’s Manhattan flagship, reportedly sold more than $5,000 worth of her new fragrance, Chic, during the event — and about $35,000 worth over the course of the week. The scent, a floral, woody musk combination developed by Firmenich, premiered in the U.S. at Saks this month.
“The response has been incredible,” said Kathy Cullin, general manager of beauty at Puig North America and president of Puig USA, Herrera’s beauty licensee. “And Saks has been an incredible partner.”
Herrera also visited her first-ever store-in-store fashion boutique, also contained within Saks’ Manhattan flagship. The 600-square-foot area, which showcases Herrera’s exclusive designs for Saks and other items from her collections, had a soft opening this week.
“This week, besides having the exclusive launch of Chic, Carolina Herrera’s sixth and newest fragrance, we also unveiled her new boutique on our third floor,” said Deborah Walters, senior vice president and general merchandise manager, cosmetics and fragrance, for Saks Fifth Avenue. “I think this demonstrates how important she is to Saks Fifth Avenue.”
