Is all that glitters gold? Pose that question to makeup artist Lisa Butler — who neatly avoided the smudging problems inherent in metallic eye pigments by gluing thin pieces of gold thread along models’ top lash line.
“It’s sort of a jewelry thing for the eyes — and it’s not coming off until we take it off,” said Butler. To keep the striking lash line the focus, Butler used a neutral beige on the eyelid and brow bone, adding a thin navy line inside the lower lid and a light touch of gold in the corner of the eye, finishing lashes with lots of navy mascara. Lips got a light coating of the palest pink — “slightly lighter than the lips’ natural color,” said Butler.
Hairstylist Eugene Souleiman kept things simple and pretty with the hair. “I wanted people to look at it and say, ‘Wow, she looks great,’ not ‘Wow, I like the hairstyle.’” To achieve that, he washed hair and blew it out with a round brush and a hair dryer, allowing hair to swing free. “No products whatsoever,” he said. “Just the natural sheen you get from a good blow-dry. It’s like supernature —and very wearable.”
