NEW YORK — Georgette Klinger is rounding out her alpha-hydroxy acid regimen with three new products.
They join Klinger’s Skin Refining Extract, an alpha-hydroxy product that was launched last May, to form the Skin Refining Collection.
The Skin Refining products arrived in Klinger’s eight salons at the end of February.
The collection consists of a 4-oz. tube of Skin Refining Surface Exfoliator for $28.50, a 2-oz. tube of Skin Refining Mask for $28.50 and an 8-oz. bottle of Skin Refining Hand & Body Lotion for $29.
Arthur Minson, chief operating officer, said he expects to sell at least 20,000 units of the extract in 1994. At $37 for a 1-oz. bottle, that projection would produce sales of $740,000. Minson noted that at least one in eight facial clients have bought the extract.
The three new products combined should bring in twice the sales of the extract, or $1.48 million.
Minson said about 60,000 clients will receive mailings on the products as well as on the new alpha-hydroxy salon facial treatments that incorporate the Skin Refining line. Klinger’s salons booked about 400 of the facials the first week they were available, he said.
The company also will distribute about 20,000 samples over the next month.
Klinger’s acid products contain topical polymers, which Lawrence Farber, senior vice president, said protects the skin from irritation.
Farber said the polymers act as a reservoir that holds the lemon and passion fruit-derived acids on the skin longer. Therefore, Farber said, the Klinger products can use a 4 to 5 percent acid concentration yet achieve the exfoliation of close to a 12 percent solution.
Farber said even the surface exfoliator, which contains fine particles for mechanical exfoliation, is safe for daily use, except for very sensitive skin. The mask is recommended for weekly use, and the extract for use once or twice a day.
All clients, however, must undergo a detailed skin analysis before buying the products, Klinger said.
“You can’t just come in and say you want this lotion because your friend uses it,” she added.
In addition to two salons in Manhattan, Klinger has salons in Beverly Hills; Bal Harbour and Palm Beach, Fla.; Washington; Chicago, and Dallas. Klinger’s almost 400 stockkeeping units also are available through a toll-free number.
