NEW YORK -- As has been anticipated for nearly a year, the Lancaster Group is moving its corporate headquarters from Wiesbaden, Germany, to Manhattan.
The new offices, at 1325 Sixth Avenue, will officially open Tuesday.
Peter Harf, chief executive officer of Lancaster and its German parent, the Ludwigshafen-based Benckiser Group, has relocated to New York. So has the head of marketing, Michael Forster, president of Benckiser's creative center in Paris. Both executives will commute to Europe to oversee their responsibilities there.
Harf said the headquarters move will allow Lancaster to become more of a global power in cosmetics. It is expected to not only spur the continued growth of the American business, but enable a deeper penetration into South America and Asia.
The New York staff, now numbering 50, is expected to double by the end of the year, Harf said.
