L’Occitane en Provence, which has imprinted its products’ packaging with Braille since 1997, was honored at the American Foundation for the Blind’s 15th Annual Helen Keller Achievement awards Oct. 1.

At the evening gala, held at Manhattan’s Marriott Marquis, AFB president and chief executive officer, Carl R. Augusto, called L’Occitane a “driving force in advocating for those with vision loss worldwide,” as he presented the award for Corporate Responsibility to Reinold Geiger, president of L’Occitane.
Geiger said the award was a testament of company employees’ “desire to help” since its founding in 1976. “Since the beginning, the company has had values [it] sticks to and has not changed,” he said.
Also presented with awards were John E. Kelly 3rd, senior vice president and director of research at IBM Corp., for the firm’s advances in making computer technology accessible to the blind or visually impaired, and Stephen G. Marriott, executive vice president of culture for Marriott International Inc.
