MAYBELLINE’S FALL FASHION WEEK LINEUP: Maybelline New York, the official cosmetic sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, announced Thursday which designers it would be supporting backstage for fall 2010. They include a mix of new and well-known designers, such as Vivienne Tam, Custo Barcelona, Carlos Miele, Tracy Reese, Max Azria, Rvca x Erin Wasson, Michael Angel and William Rast. The cosmetics brand, which is owned by L’Oréal USA, is using a makeup team managed by global makeup artist Charlotte Willer.

TRADING PLACES: Communications International Group has acquired business-to-business beauty title Cosmetic News Weekly and the cosmeticnews.com Web site, which were previously owned by Reed Business Information. The deal was inked on Jan. 15. “We felt it complemented our stable,” said Felim O’Brien, chief executive officer of CIG, which already counts Cosmetics International and Cosmetics Product Report among its titles. CosmeticNews Weekly previously was part of Cosmédias, which was incorporated into RBI in November and its international titles shuttered. RBI continues to publish beauty titles Cosmétique Hebdo, Coiffure de Paris and CosmetiqueMag.

CANDLE OFFERING: Thymes, the specialty fragrance marketer, is aiming to grow its home fragrance business with the launch this month of a candle collection called Offerings. The line features eight 9-oz. candles, priced at $26 each, with names and fragrances designed to strengthen personal connections, according to Amy Backman, marketing manager for the Minneapolis-based firm. The candles, called Good Luck, Happiness, Love, Friendship, Thankfulness, Abundance, Peace and Good Health, are slated to reach Thymes’ full distribution of 3,000 specialty boutiques by March or April. “We have 13 bath and body collections,” noted Backman, who added: “We’re hoping to expand our home fragrance assortment, as well.”

JAEGER MOVES: Joseph J. Jaeger has joined skin care brand Kate Somerville as chief operating officer. Prior to Kate Somerville, Jaeger was chief financial officer of Physicians Formula Holdings Inc. and held various positions at L’Oréal USA, including vice president of finance for the luxury goods division, vice president of finance for Maybelline and vice president of finance for L’Oréal’s cosmetics and fragrance division. Kate Somerville, which has a skin care clinic in West Hollywood, Calif., and sells products at Sephora, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom, merged with San Francisco-based private equity firm JH Partners in 2007.

GROOMING GUY: Grooming Lounge, the Washington-based men’s salon, has named John Mulgrew national sales director. In his new post, Mulgrew, who spent seven years at men’s salon hair care brand American Crew and was most recently president, will be responsible for marketing Grooming Lounge’s product line, cultivating relationships with a broader customer base and initiating relationships with manufacturers. Prior to joining American Crew, Mulgrew, a 20-year beauty industry veteran, worked at hair care firm Kenra as well as Toni & Guy.
