NEW GMM AT WALGREENS?: Market reports are that Walgreens has announced a new general merchandise manager for beauty, Shannon Petree, who previously worked at Wal-Mart. Walgreens did not return calls at press time.

GOING GLOBAL: Last week, theBalm launched in Harvey Nichols and became its first makeup range available online. The brand also recently launched in German perfumery chain Douglas, and set up a company-owned division in Ireland to handle European retail accounts. TheBalm chief executive officer Marissa Shipman said the brand also has entered Dubai. Domestically, theBalm is carried in about 1,000 doors, including some 130 Sephora doors.

BEYOND BROWS: Brow guru Damone Roberts has collaborated with OPI on a $9 namesake nail lacquer that will hit his salons in New York and Los Angeles, Amazon.com and Takashimaya in August. The green shade is pulled from the color on the walls in Roberts’ locations. “It is not your typical mint green. It has a little touch of gray in it and a little touch of brown,” he explained. A full makeup line is in the works for spring and he has signed on with the Carol Mann Agency to release a how-to beauty book in 2011. Roberts is evaluating funding options to help fuel expansion.

HERCUT NAMES EXECS: Blue Space Brand’s first brand, HerCut, has tapped Teresa Gabriel, global vice president of HerCut sales and business development, and Shawn Peltier, vice president of global artistry and education. Gabriel will be charged with building a selling and sharing organization in the U.S. Her career includes roles at Stila Cosmetics, Benefit and Smashbox. Peltier will guide retail education at HerCut. Most recently he was Stila’s director of artistry and education.

WOMEN OF WORTH: L’Oréal Paris is hosting its fourth annual Women of Worth Initiative, an awards program for women who have demonstrated a commitment to community service and volunteering. The public can vote at womenofworth.com until July 13 for the 10 women they think best deserve a $5,000 donation toward their respective charities. The national honoree will receive $25,000 for their charity.

KIM VO BARBERS: The Kim Vo Salon at the Mirage Hotel is partnering with Truefitt & Hill to provide a barber shop experience for men. Truefitt & Hill will be providing nine grooming treatments, including a shampoo and scalp massage, a traditional hot lather shave and a barber’s haircut. The Kim Vo Salon at the Mirage was recently ranked number four on the Hottest Salons in America 2009 list by Salon City Inc.

EMERGINC PROTECTION: EmerginC, a botanically based cosmeceutical skin care line, will launch two new products, Protocell Protective Moisturizer and Protocell Eye Cream, next month. Designed to address the signs of aging using plant stem cell technology from Swiss apples, the products also contain AquaCacteen, an elixir from the prickly pear; opuntia cactus for hydration, and argan oil for stretch marks. The Protocell Protective Moisturizer, $90, and eye cream, $95, could generate $1.4 million in sales within the first year, industry sources said. The products will be available online as well as at select spas nationwide.
