In honor of Neiman Marcus' 100th anniversary, Orlane is introducing Crème Royale, an antiaging treatment product that incorporates elements of ancient Chinese medicine with modern plastic surgery techniques through the use of 24-karat liquid gold.

"We created this item for Neiman Marcus, keeping their customer in mind — someone who's already very well-educated and understands luxury," said Naz Toloui, Orlane's vice president of sales and education.

Launching exclusively at Neiman Marcus stores this month, the day and night cream is composed of Royale Gelée, a pure honey ingredient, which scientists have not been able to duplicate. Known for its longevity benefits, Royale Gelée is said to be created by worker honeybees for the queen bee to increase her life span. Aimed at consumers 35 years old and over, a 1.7-oz. jar will retail for $650.

"The average bee lives six weeks, but this honey allows the queen bee to live up to seven years," said Toloui, who added the honey is a key ingredient in cell nourishment and renewal.

Orlane also incorporated the same technology taken from a technique plastic surgeons use placing 24-karat gold inside the skin, so collagen is collected around the gold, helping to prevent sagging and promote action for lethargic cells. While the Royale Gelée is designed to offer antibiotic, nutritive, antioxidant benefits, the 24-karat gold extract provides firming, antiwrinkle and antioxidant benefits. In addition, acacia Senegal from Savannah shrubs acts as an antiinflammatory ingredient, and coco glycerides from coconut and fruit sugar energize and nourish the skin.

According to industry sources, Orlane's Crème Royale is expected to bring in between $3 million and $5 million in first-year retail sales. According to Toloui, the company received 300 prelaunch advance orders from consumers in 10 days.
