MIAMI -- Simon Falic, president of Perfumania Inc., has been named to the additional posts of chairman and chief executive officer, succeeding Ilia Lekach.
Lekach, who founded Perfumania and remains a major shareholder, will continue with the company as a consultant.
Earlier this year, Lekach became chairman of Parlux Fragrances, another company where he is a large shareholder.
Lekach assumed the additional title of ceo in March, when Robert Kaufman resigned as president and ceo of Parlux.
"I am interested in growing Parlux," Lekach said Monday. "I like the international business, and I like the creative part. I enjoy it more."
Falic said the expansion of Perfumania's 150-store retail operation has been slowed down to boost profitability. "We were opening 50 stores a year," he said, adding that "this year we will be opening significantly fewer."
He estimated that Perfumania will open only 15 to 20 stores this year.
The company also has upgraded its computerized system of store cash registers.
Also at Perfumania, Jerome Falic, Simon Falic's brother and a vice president, has been named a director.
