NEW YORK — Yet another indie makeup artist is joining The Estée Lauder Cos.
Australian makeup artist Poppy King, who founded an eponymous line of color cosmetics in 1992, has been named vice president of creative marketing for Prescriptives, effective Dec. 2. In this newly created position, King will be responsible for helping to "conceptualize unique and exciting color concepts for Prescriptives — as well as bring them to life," said Pamela Baxter, president of the specialty group worldwide for The Estée Lauder Cos., to whom King will report.
"Poppy is completely in tune with the concept that every women is uniquely individual, which is also our philosophy," said Baxter. "She has her finger on the pulse of trends —?and has a great eye for color. And because she ran her own company, she has experience in all aspects of brand development. Her spirit and passion will be a true asset to the brand."
King founded Poppy Industries Pty Ltd. when she was only 18 because the then-teenager couldn’t find the perfect matte lipstick. The line, which was expanded to a complete color cosmetics collection, was introduced in the U.S. in 1993. It is no longer being produced.
"My brand was an amazing adventure, but it had gone as far as I could take it," King said. "I’m excited to begin work at Prescriptives —?there’s a whole new audience that has yet to learn about the brilliance of custom beauty, and I can’t wait to show it to her!"
