Last minute change of plans at Diane von Furstenberg: Hairstylist Orlando Pita was about to do a curly do until the models walked in for fittings. It was then that the designer and Pita saw that the girls were sporting updos — so they went with it.
“It was a beautiful, effortless look,” said Brian Buenaventura, one of Pita’s team members. “They saw it and decided to have that for the show.”
That’s not to say there weren’t minor modifications. The hair was finger-combed from the top of the head into an undone bun in the back “to make it look like they did it themselves.” The look was finished off with a spritz of Pita’s T3 Control hair spray.
Meanwhile, von Furstenberg herself inspired the makeup. “It was very much inspired by Andy Warhol’s silk screen print of Diane von Furstenberg’s own lips,” said James Kaliardos, who was working on behalf of MAC Cosmetics. Hence, a “clean, strong” hot pink powder pigment was applied to the lips.
“We picked a color that would look like it was silk screened on,” said Kaliardos. A pink hue on a luminescent face was meant as a “symbol of femininity.” On the eyes? A bit of liner and highlighter on the inner corner.
