GENEVA — Procter & Gamble Prestige Products has added another celebrity star to its universe of scents with the inking of a fragrance licensing deal with singer Avril Lavigne.

Lavigne said she was very pleased “to be working with Procter & Gamble on releasing my first fragrance. Creating this fragrance is a fun process and I am looking forward to sharing it with everyone.”
Heike Hindenlang, global marketing director for Procter & Gamble Prestige Products, said Lavigne’s first scent is expected to be launched in the second half of 2009. She added the scent would target consumers in their early teens, and that additional fragrances are also planned.
“Young teenage girls really aspire to Avril and love everything about her,” said Hindenlang. “We think we can reach out to new consumers with her scents.”
Lavigne joins a group of existing, youth-oriented fragrance licenses in Procter & Gamble Prestige Products’ point-of-market-entry brand portfolio, which the company spent the past three years rejuvenating. Key activity last year included acquiring fragrance licenses for Puma, Christina Aguilera and Italian jeans brand Replay, and divesting eau de cologne line 4711, which was acquired by Mäurer + Wirtz.
“It’s about finding which brands appeal to young consumers,” said Hindenlang, “and [which] fashion and celebrities are resonant with them.”

Groupe Clarins Management Changes
PARIS — A new management structure has emerged at Groupe Clarins.
Philip Shearer is president of the company’s management board, effectively making him Clarins’ chief executive officer, the position formerly held by Christian Courtin-Clarins. Courtin-Clarins, meanwhile, became president of the firm’s supervisory board.
Other executives on Clarins’ management board are Olivier Courtin-Clarins, vice president of research and development; Pierre Milet, secretary general, and Lionel de Benetti, director of industrial operations. Also part of the new management lineup are Dominique Calvo, director of human resources; Pankaj Chandarana, group finance director; Gérard Delcour, president of a new structure overseeing travel retail, market agents and the America zone outside of the U.S.; Frédéric Géraud, president of the Europe zone; Isabelle Herbreteau, president of the Clarins brand; Joël Palix, president of the fragrance division; Pascal Polet, director of operations; Robin Vincent, president of Clarins U.K., and Jonathan Zrihen, president of Clarins USA. The company stated that a president of the Asia zone will also be part of the board and is expected to join the company in September.
Shearer was formerly Clarins’ executive vice president.

La Mer Makes Ocean Donation
La Mer, the ultraluxury skin care line marketed by the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc., has pledged a $100,000 donation to Oceana, a nonprofit organization that aims to protect the world’s oceans.
The skin care brand is to officially announce the gift, which recognizes World Ocean Day on Sunday, at a World Ocean Day event at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan tonight. The donation is also meant to honor the founder of La Mer, Max Huber, who researched sea kelp beds off the coast of Southern California, a process that inspired him to preserve the health and integrity of the ocean, according to the brand.
La Mer has supported Oceana since 2005, and the beauty brand’s donation this year is earmarked for global ocean conservation.
