NEW YORK — Intent on developing its beauty business, QVC Network has launched a skin care line that rang up more than $194,000 in sales in its premiere performance.
QVC holds the license to market the line, called Best Defense by Hydron, for the Western Hemisphere. Hydron Technologies of Boca Raton, Fla., develops and manufactures the products.
QVC launched Hydron’s Facial Moisturizer for day and Moisture Balance Restorative for night and sold the products as a kit at an introductory price of $53.94. The regular price for the two 2-oz. bottles will be $59.90, according to a QVC spokeswoman.
Darlene Daggett, vice president of merchandising for QVC, said the network sold out of its 3,600 kits during the one-hour “Around the House” show last Sunday.
“It’s a key launch for us,” Daggett said. “We certainly hope it will evolve into an hour-long format.”
QVC also offered Hydron’s All Over Moisturizer in three different segments on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. QVC already had featured the hand and body treatment product 10 times since last May.
Daggett said that over the three-day period, QVC sold 20,000 units at $13.25 for an 8-oz. bottle, bringing in $265,000.
Karen Gray, vice president at Hydron, said, “We’re looking at seven to nine products by April, 12 to 15 by the end of the year.”
The Hydron line is named for the water-attracting substance instrumental in the development of soft contact lenses that the company has adapted for skin care products. The company claims the products are able to create a cushion of moisture on the skin, enabling it to absorb vitamins and other nutrients.
The products also contain antioxidants to fight free radicals, and the daytime moisturizer has an SPF 15.
