Fragrances are not expensive at all, according to Sisi, a student. "I don't care how much a scent costs me, as long as it smells great." As for cheaper scents, she tends to stay away from "all that junk. I only use soap and water and a dab of Antonia's Flowers behind the ears." Meghan Cartlin, a student, said, "I refuse to spend more than $50 for a bottle of perfume. I think the prices for cosmetics are getting higher each year." She said she prefers to drown herself in The Limited's Bath & Bodyworks products. "My all-time favorite is Sun Ripen Raspberry -- I can't leave home without it."
Vanessa, a fine arts student, claimed that the company's Sunburst Melon beats Sun Ripen, and added, "As far as I'm concerned, you don't have to spend a lot of money to smell good." Vanessa really doesn't believe in overindulging oneself in obnoxious perfumes. Brooke Elkin, when asked about her favorite scent, replied, "Dove soap and water is all I need. None of that fancy-schmancy stuff. Who needs it?"
Deneen, a model, said she wears Jil Sander No. 4, "but only when I'm feeling sexy." She doesn't care how much her favorite fragrance costs, noting, "I will pay anything."
Claudia, a student, had similar tastes. "I have been wearing Jil Sander for quite some time and I just love the way the fragrance makes me feel -- womanly and sexy."
And only on special occasions, she added, "will I pamper myself with body treatments by Sander."
"I really don't wear perfumes, but lately I've been into the fruit-scented soaps from the Body Shop," says Monica Kasbir, a retailer. "Maybe it has something to do with the weather. But what I do know is that I certainly would never spend more than $15 for a bottle of anything."
"I really enjoy pampering myself with beauty products. I'm constantly hunting for something that will make me feel great," said Elaine Singer, a photographer. "So, for me, it doesn't matter how much a fragrance costs."
