PRIVATE TIME: Michelle Taylor, former president of Kiehl's, has joined San Francisco private equity firm JH Partners as senior operating partner. She will report to JH Partners president John Hansen and sit on the boards of select brands in JH's beauty portfolio, including Jurlique and Kate Somerville. Taylor will also help evaluate future investments. "Private equity has really fueled the entrepreneurial aspect of our business," she said. "There is a lot more opportunity to give small brands that base for significant growth." Immediately prior to joining JH Partners, Taylor was senior vice president at direct-response specialist Guthy-Renker. A beauty industry veteran, her résumé boasts experience at Lancôme, Frédéric Fekkai and Chanel Beauté. She is based in Santa Barbara, Calif.
CUT-A-THON: Redken 5th Avenue NYC is holding its annual cut-a-thon today and has partnered this year with Couture for Cancer, a nonprofit organization that donates custom-made nonsurgical human hair replacement systems free of charge to cancer patients. All proceeds from the event will go to the "Inspire Change" charity program Redken has formed together with Couture for Cancer. More than 75 Redken stylists will offer haircuts and blow-dries in exchange for a minimum donation of $30. More than 30 Redken salons will be hosting cut-a-thons to support the program.
