REALLY RED CARPET: Revlon is taking advantage of the beauty opportunity Oscar week presents and on Monday booked a suite at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills to pamper A-listers before their special night. Dubbed the Revlon Red Carpet Lounge, celebrity makeup artist Troy Jensen, who is doing the makeup for best actress nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno, will be on hand to create customized day and evening looks using Revlon products.
Revlon is treating each best actress and best supporting actress nominee to an original Anya Hindmarch Bespoke Ebury handbag in box calf, which will be lined in Revlon red suede. A handwritten message from the director and leading man of each actress’ movie will be embossed onto the leather lining. Bags will be filled with Revlon makeup best suited to each actress’ complexion.
In other Revlon news, the company has named Elizabeth Crystal senior vice president, customer marketing. Most recently, Crystal was vice president of trade marketing for Buena Vista Home Entertainment. She will report to Paul Murphy, executive vice president, North America customer sales, marketing and merchandising.
PURE PETTINESS: PureBeauty has named James C. Petty president and chief executive officer of operations. Petty will oversee the 65-unit beauty chain's retail and Internet business units. PureBeauty co-founder Brett Saevitzon has resigned as president to develop new business opportunities for the company. Petty is formerly of Limited Too, where he served as president and general manager. Prior to that, Petty spent 13 years with the Gap Inc. in multiple roles including vice president of operations for Banana Republic and most recently as vice president of operations for Old Navy.
SHISEIDO PROMOTIONS: Shiseido Cosmetics (America) Ltd. has promoted two education and sales development executives. Maree Lavo has been appointed vice president of education and sales development. She was formerly executive director. Jean Bellard has been named director of field education. She previously was training executive for northern California.
KANEBO SCALES BACK: Kanebo Cosmetics Inc. will withdraw from the U.K. and Ireland markets, except for one shop in Harrods in London this spring amid restructuring, according to the firm. A total of 135 Kanebo employees, including 106 beauty consultants, could be affected. “This move is part of a restructuring plan of international business of Kanebo Cosmetics,” said a company spokesman. “Since the firm was spun out of the debt-suffering Kanebo on May 7, we have been working on reshaping our business,” added the spokesman, although he declined to comment on business volume of the market. A company press release added that the final decision to withdraw from these markets was based on the “prestige nature of the Kanebo brand and the retail distribution that is required” for it to succeed.NPD FRAGRANCE FINDINGS: Elizabeth Taylor’s White Diamonds was the most desired fragrance during the recent holiday season. Eighty-five percent of scents were bought as a gift — while a third of those purchasers picked up fragrance products for themselves — and 60 percent bought a single bottle rather than a gift set. These were among a number of survey findings released this week by NPD Beauty, a division of The NPD Group. Because holiday sales drive 32 percent of prestige fragrance sales, according to NPD Beauty, the market information company conducted an online poll of 700 women ages 18 to 64 to gauge holiday shopping experiences, buying habits and advertising statistics.
"I was driving back on Saturday afternoon from the beach, and I just saw this sign saying 'Skydiving for $95.' And I was like, I can't not sky dive for $95," says Tom Bateman about a moment in Hawaii while shooting "Snatched." #wwdeye (📷: @vsteves; Interview by @ktauer; Styled by @thealexbadia)
