LONDON — Tom Ford’s direction to makeup artist Charltotte Tilbury was “rock ‘n’ roll girls who looked as if they hadn’t seen the light of day and had slept in their makeup,” she said. “Cool is the operative word.”

This look was achieved with Ford’s Eye Defining pencil in Onyx and Noir Absolute smudged all the way round the eyes.

Skin was prepped with Intensive Infusion Ultra Rich Moisturizer, Shade and Illuminate. Lips were dotted with Illuminating Highlighting Pen and finished with Lip Lacquer.

As for the hair, “Tom wanted it to feel like Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders or Betty Catroux — women who wear their hair right down in front of their faces,” said stylist Orlando Pita.

He blow-dried locks using his Lift and Plump product, and tamed fly-aways with a little cream. “Tom wanted the girls to feel real,” Pita said.
