DDF HIRE: Laura Preston has joined Doctor's Dermatologic Formula (DDF) as vice president of retail sales. Preston, who has spent 12 years in the beauty industry, most recently served as vice president of sales at Paula Dorf. Preston will be responsible for all retail negotiations at DDF, as well as in-store activities and retail expansion both domestically and abroad. Previously, DDF cofounder Elaine Linker handled those duties. According to Linker, there are no set expansion goals but the clinically oriented skin care brand is eyeing new distribution in "high-end" chain or independent specialty stores. In addition to 1,500 U.S. spas, DDF is carried chainwide at Sephora, in 24 Nordstrom doors and at Fred Segal Essentials. Internationally, DDF is sold at Harvey Nichols and Boots the Chemists' Pure Beauty concept in the U.K.BEAUTY AT PURPLESKIRT.COM: Robin Coe-Hutshing, founder and creative director of Fred Segal Essentials, has been tapped as Purpleskirt.com's creative director for beauty. The Los Angeles-based fashion e-tail site launched beauty products last fall. Coe-Hutshing will oversee the expansion of the Web site's cosmetics, bath and body and fragrance offerings. Currently, Purpleskirt.com carries approximately two dozen brands, including Anastasia, Delux Beauty, Kai, Linda Cantello, Tocca, and Christian Celle Calypso.AIRTIGHT: Designer Kenneth Cole has confirmed plans this fall to initiate the "Stir the Air" fund--a charitable-giving program established to benefit select charitableorganizations and community services--in conjunction with the launch of his eponymous line of fragrances. The first programs will include initiatives with the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amFAR) and HELP USA, the nation's largest provider for housing, jobs and services for the homeless, amongst others.
