Top Notes: A New Lauder … Russo to Clinique … P&G Honored

A brief look at the latest happenings in the beauty industry.

A NEW LAUDER: The marriage between Tom Ford and Estée Lauder is on the verge of producing its first offspring. While Lauder executives avoid talking about the project, word has leaked out that the expected first collection is taking shape. Ford reportedly has put a decidedly modern stamp on some looks straight out of the Lauder archives. He has given a modern reincarnation to lipsticks and compacts and even a fragrance product of some nature. According to sources, the project is on schedule to appear as a special collection in stores in early November as a run-up to holiday.

RUSSO TO CLINIQUE: Giovanni Russo has been named global creative director for Clinique and will lead Clinique’s global advertising, design, packaging, store design and merchandising initiatives. Russo  graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1988 and has worked at Travel + Leisure magazine and the Gap. In 1998, he founded No 11, a creative agency, where he was principal and creative director.

P&G HONORED: Marc S. Pritchard, president of global retail hair color, cosmetics and personal care for Procter & Gamble, will accept the Pratt Institute Luxe Pack Art of Packaging Award at a gala scheduled for next May 16 at Manhattan’s University Club. The event benefits the 16-year-old Marc Rosen Scholarship for Graduate Design.
