TWO BRANDS FOR BATRA: Shashi Batra, general manager of Rodan and Fields, will be given the additional responsibility of working as general manager of Darphin on July 1. The Estée Lauder Cos., which owns both brands, today announced the expansion of Batra’s duties to include the two brands. Batra, who joined Lauder in January 2004 from Sephora USA, reports to Lauder group president Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne.
“Shashi is one of our strongest entrepreneurs and business leaders,” Bousquet-Chavanne stated. “Darphin has experienced a period of rapid growth in the U.S. and Shashi will now lead its expansion in specialty stores, fashion stores and the spa channel.” Bousquet-Chavanne, citing Batra’s 18 months of “readying Rodan and Fields for its expansion in the U.S. and abroad,” praised Batra’s understanding of the challenges involved in building a skin care business.
Batra succeeds Jean-Marc Benet, who is returning to France to become general manager of international affiliate markets for Darphin. Lauder acquired the French skin care brand two years ago.
PASLEY TO RALPH: Carol Pasley has joined Ralph Lauren Fragrances as vice president, Ralph Lauren Beauty. In the new role, Pasley will spearhead product development and global marketing efforts for both the Ralph Lauren Cosmetics and Men’s Treatment categories. Edgar Huber, president of the Luxury Products Division of L’Oréal USA, said in a statement, “We are extremely happy to welcome Carol to the Ralph Lauren Fragrances team and this clearly shows our commitment to Ralph Lauren Beauty and taking the business to the next level.” Pasley joins L’Oréal from Sephora, where she was responsible for overseeing the concept, product development and strategic direction of the retailer’s private label makeup collection in nine countries. Prior to joining Sephora, she was with MAC Cosmetics, focusing on face, hair and fragrance; Pasley was also responsible for launching the MAC Pro Preferred Skincare Line.
WOODRIDGE CHANGE: Woodridge Labs Inc., a nine-year-old skin, bath, body and hair care marketer, has appointed David Horwitz executive vice president of sales and marketing. Horwitz, a 40-year sales and marketing veteran with the likes of Neutrogena, Max Factor and Alberto-Culver, will work along with Woodridge founder and president Joe Millin on strategic planning and company longevity. The firm is best known for its Vita-K Solution skin care line, which is a leading brand in drugstore chains.
