Global Creative Director for Makeup, Chanel
Be it the catwalk or the cosmetics counter, Chanel’s Peter Philips has shown himself to be equally at ease in both milieu. Since being named global creative director for makeup in 2008, he has masterfully combined creativity and commerciality to solidify the brand’s blockbuster status. Many credit him with single-handedly bringing lipstick back with the launch of Rouge Coco in 2010, which rocketed to the top of the sales charts, rivalled only this year by the launch of Rouge Coco Shine as a follow-up. In nail color, Philips has the Midas touch — even competitors laud his trend-setting colors, noting that where Chanel goes, consumers (and the industry) follow. Although the soft-spoken Belgian is a self-trained makeup artist who studied fashion design at Antwerp’s prestigious Royal Academy of Fine Arts, when it comes to beauty, Philips has shown he’s a natural.
