“I had Tilda Swinton in the back of my mind and snow falling outside inspired me, too,” said Kabuki, for MAC Cosmetics, when describing the look for Zac Posen. Images of the pale muse came to life as he bleached out the eyes with vanilla creams and shadows a few shades lighter then each model’s skin tone. Then, he used a nude eye pencil to brighten the water line. To keep it fresh, rather than alien-esque, he applied a thin black liquid liner along the upper lash line and coated lashes with black mascara to lift the eye. Next, skin was buffed with Matchmaster Foundation, and Mineralized Powder was added to subtly contour under the cheekbone. The key element of the evening was the wine-stained lip, which tied back to the exact shade in the designer’s collection.
Using John Frieda products, lead stylist Luigi Murenu crafted a modern take on the classic chignon. Crimping the sides with a thin iron, Murenu pulled the hair back into a low twist. He finished the do by teasing and adding volume at the tip.
Michelle Saunders played off the lip with Essie’s Carry On. “The lips were inspired by the collection,” said Saunders, “And the nails were inspired by the lips.”
