Trend: Glitter Appeal


The Pat McGrath effect was out in full force for fashion month, as glitter makeup popped up on runways from New York to Milan. Her Pat McGrath Labs Lust 004, launched Aug. 30, which transforms lips into glitter-festooned creations, is sure to blame. But the trend isn’t all theater and painstaking intricacy. At Altuzarra, Tom Pecheux dusted glitter all over the face for a sun-dappled effect, and at Fendi, Peter Philips applied oversize craft glitter to lips for a homespun flourish. For the young set of girls who live on social media, glitter is a means to express individuality and convey youthfulness and shine. Brands have taken note with multiuse glitter launches like Maybelline’s Shine Shot Topcoat in Prismatic, MAC Cosmetics’ eye glosses and Urban Decay’s Moonstruck palette. “People are after looking special,” said makeup artist James Kaliardos. “It’s another way to show your light.”
