Beach hair may look effortless, but proponents know achieving it is anything but. Spring launches such as Garnier Fructis’ Wonder Waves Enhancing Spray look to ease the process. A lightweight blend of hairdefining polymers, moisturizing humectants and silicone, the result is perfectly piecey, tousled waves. Root Awakening, the newest line from John Frieda Collection, takes the brand into natural territory with such ingredients as eucalyptus, willow tree bark and peppermint oil. Essential oils, shine-enhancing ingredients and a groundbreaking new discovery could mean the end of frizz as we know it.
For the curl inclined, summer means one thing: frizz. The creation of a new molecule by an M.I.T. scientist, polyflouroester, might just change that, though. The star ingredient in the new hair care line No Frizz by Living Proof, it purports to eliminate frizz without the use of silicone. The line’s Straight Making Styling Spray features the compound, as well as an ingredient combination that is said to repel dirt and oil, resist humidity and friction and last for up to 16 hours. Meanwhile, the celebrated Miami-based star hairstylist Oribe has introduced Oribe Hair Care, a line made with luxurious natural ingredients and formulated for all hair types. Conditioner for Brilliance and Shine contains extracts of edelweiss flower, lychee and watermelon to protect against the elements and help arrest the deterioration of natural keratin. From Los Angeles comes Neil George’s Detangle Nourishment Spray, a spritz of which is said to detangle and protect damaged or colored hair with nourishing jojoba and soothing calendula. Sebastian Professional unveils its Flaunt Collection, which includes four high-shine styling products. Liquid Gloss, formulated with a blend of silicones, creates a humidity-resistant shield said to withstand even the most extreme temperatures and adds polish to straight styles.
Efficacious ingredients and lightweight formulations make these new foundations a natural choice for warm weather.
Nothing is more unappealing than the idea of a heavy foundation in the summer. Happily, the newest cover without camouflage for a natural glow. Korres, the Greek brand known for its skin care, is launching Wild Rose Foundation, a skin-brightening formulation with SPF 20 that promises fine-line repair thanks to the inclusion of vegetable oils and wild rose-derived vitamin C. Precious stones, crystals and gems enhance Estée Lauder’s newest foundation, Re-Nutrive Ultimate Radiance Makeup SPF 15. The luxe formula contains rubies, sapphires, jade, South Sea pearls, colloidal gold, amethyst and moisturizing hyaluronic acid to illuminate skin and minimize imperfections. Following in the footsteps of Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mousse comes Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation, an air-whipped pore minimizing formulation. Rimmel London promises shine-free skin coverage with Stay Matte Clarifying Matte Foundation. Salicylic acid and botanical extracts work to maintain clear skin in the oil-free, fragrancefree and paraben-free formula. Smashbox Hyrbrid 2-in-1 Luminizing Primer is fortified with vitamins to create smooth skin whether worn under makeup or alone.
A new take on long-lasting color, luxe formulas and innovative designs upgrade a classic category.
Lip color comes in many manifestations this season. CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain is a water-based weightless stain, available in 10 shades created by P&G global creative design director Pat McGrath. Fun-loving makeup mavens will love its magic marker-like applicator. A bar of gold inspired the distinctive packaging of Rouge G de Guerlain, the opulent April lip color offering from Guerlain. At play in the smoothing, plumping lip color is ruby powder, wild mango butter, tiger grass, liquid mother of pearl and a natural wrinkle-filler, gugul resin. Brazilian rain–forest butter stars with tripeptides in Neutrogena’s Moistureshine Lipcolor SPF 20, the brand’s first lipstick. The balmlike formulation provides full coverage color and replenishes moisture levels in the lips. Sensai’s new makeup line takes its inspiration from kimonos; Deep Moist Shine Rouge features nourishing benefits from koishimaru silk extract derivatives of red seaweed. Finally, Sally Hansen unites saturated lip color with plumping technology in Lip Inflation Color-Full. A hydrocollagen complex makes lips look bigger while a color intensive pearl technology keeps the eight shades looking rich and true.
