Nail polish brand OPI introduced this week its first international short film, called Instinct of Color, on YouTube. The video’s star, Lady in Black, is based on the brands’ Black Onyx lacquer, and is played by a thoroughbred horse (trained by Mario Luraschi). Supporting the Lady are four featured polish shades — Pink-ing of You, Red My Fortune Cookie, Need Sunglasses? and No Room for the Blues — represented by female dancers participating in a dance-off.
Displaying varying choreography styles, individual dancers face the equine and express themselves according to the mood of their polish. Set to French band C2C’s song Down the Road, Lady in Black’s hooves change colors to match the shade she is dancing opposite. The film aims to illustrate nail polish as a means of self-expression.
“Today, nail color can convey feelings and emotions, expressing on the outside what the wearer is feeling on the inside,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, the brand’s executive vice president and artistic director.
