Makeup artist Susan Posnick has designed a line of lipsticks called Color Essential with the intention of making it easy for any woman to pucker up in the season’s hottest shade — no matter how concerned she might be about wearing bold colors.

“Red is so hot on lips this spring, but most women won’t wear it,” said Posnick. “This lets women wear red but it’s a soft red — the perfect red that any woman can wear.” Posnick will begin shipping that red in late March along with one coral, one pink, one nude and one berry lip color.

Each of the five opaque Color Essential lip hues was formulated with a neutral base to flatter most skin tones. “We tested them on hundreds of women,” said Posnick. “It goes with our whole philosophy of keeping it simple.”

The lip colors extend Posnick’s namesake line of foundation, concealer, eye color and lip stains sold in such specialty retailers as Fred Segal and Forty Five Ten.

Containing an array of moisturizers and vitamins, the lipsticks retail for $17 each and are packaged in a metallic aubergine tube with a magnetic closure.

“We expect the lipsticks to do over $1 million because they are getting such a great response and are unique in their category,” Posnick said. “Our feeling is that women might pick up more than one if we price it reasonably.”
