Kristen Taekman of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of New York” used to dabble in hand modeling. Although it didn’t work out for the long haul, Taekman became obsessed with nail polish, and in May she’ll have a line of her own, Pop of Color by Kristen Taekman.
“This season there’s a little controversy with my line,” laughed Taekman. “Some of the ladies allude to the fact that Pop of Color isn’t the best name.”
Some of the other housewives may not agree with the name, but hey, Taekman is the one who scored a line exclusive to Ricky’s. Launching in May and priced at $8 a bottle, the 12-shade collection is vegan and free of certain chemicals. The colors are named after personal references in her life. For example, the army green is called Cash after her son.
“I’m a mom who models every now and again and I kept asking myself what do I do in my spare time,” she said. “Last season, you saw a lot of struggle between my husband and I with his work and taking conference calls while with the family, so I wanted to have something of my own.”
Taekman noted that she is considering entering other categories with Pop of Color.
Meanwhile, Patricia Yankee and Taekman’s makeup artist Jacquelyn Grubbs helped create the collection. Yankee even used two shades at the Elie Tahari show and Taekman would love for Pop of Color to do more with fashion week.
