Red is said to be the first color perceived by babies. Brides in China wear red on their wedding day. The red rose is a symbol of love and fidelity; the red carpet, a walk of fame for superstars and their hangers-on. In color psychology, red is the color of blood and the emotions that stir it, including love, passion and anger. And in beauty, red is the color of this season’s standout fragrances. Christian Lacroix’s Rouge blends patchouli with Spanish carnation (red, natch) and white pepper for a fresh take on a floral chypre, while Agent Provocateur’s Strip is as audacious as its name (and red point d’esprit tulle flacon) suggests.
