NEW YORK — In a mid-level management shakeup, Bergdorf Goodman has fired two divisional merchandisers, Alison Rose and Simonetta Morrison.

Rose handled cosmetics while Morrison was over accessories. Both were also vice presidents.

Market sources said that since Bergdorf’s changed its top management last spring, departures would be inevitable. Stephen Elkin became chairman and chief executive officer in May, succeeding Burton Tansky, who moved to Neiman Marcus in those posts. Also, Dawn Mello became president, the title previously held by Elkin.

Under the old management, Rose and Morrison each received promotions on more than one occasion.

Bergdorf officials would not comment on the dismissals and did not name successors. Rose started at the store as a buyer six years ago and had previously worked at Saks Fifth Avenue as a department manager. Morrison had been with the store about three years.

At Bergdorf’s, accessories does $35 million in annual sales; cosmetics does $15 million, sources said. Total revenues at the store in the year ended July 30 rose 4.7 percent to $229.5 million. Operating earnings were down 19.5 percent to $10.3 million from $12.8 million, reflecting lower gross margins and increased markdowns in 1994. Bergdorf’s pre-LIFO operating income was “slightly ahead” of the year-ago figure, the company said.
