JONES EYES: Jones Apparel Group Inc. has entered into a licensing deal with Riviera Trading Inc. for women’s and men’s sunglasses to be made under the Jones New York moniker. Jones New York sunglasses are currently being made under license by Lantis Eyewear Corp., but that deal is set to expire Dec. 31. Starting with the spring 2005 collection, Riviera will manufacture and distribute sunglasses to department and specialty stores that also carry Jones New York apparel. Wholesale prices will range from $17.50 to $25. Jones Apparel Group has a separate license agreement with Rem Eyewear for Jones New York optical frames.
VF TAPS JARDINE: Anne Jardine has been named vice president, business development, for the VF Intimates Coalition, a division of VF Corp. The post has been vacant for about a year after Chris Fuentes became vice president of VF Corp.’s Nautica division. Jardine joined VF Intimates in January 2000 as vice president and general manager for Bestform/Exquisite Form, and most recently launched the company’s Curvation brand. Based in New York, Jardine will assume responsibility for strategic planning and for identifying growth opportunities for VF Intimates, which comprises Vanity Fair, Vassarette, Bestform, Curvation and Lily of France. She continues to report to Curt Holtz, president of VF Intimates, mass brands.
NIKE FAREWELLS: The three eldest members of Nike Inc.’s board of directors will step down at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting Sept. 20. They are John Jaqua, 84, who has been on Nike’s board since the company’s founding in 1968; Richard Donohue, 77, who has served since 1977, and Chuck Robinson, 85, a director since 1978. The board will decide whether to replace the retiring board members at a later date. In 1993, Nike adopted a mandatory retirement age policy of 72, but it applies only to board members appointed after the policy was enacted. Nine other Nike board members will be up for reelection at the meeting.
BARNEYS GETS MALLED: Barneys New York said on Monday that it is opening two mall-based Co-op stores in the first quarter of 2005. One is in the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif., previously reported in WWD, and the other is located in the Phipps Plaza in Atlanta. The Phipps Plaza location is 7,000 square feet. Howard Socol, chairman, president and chief executive, said the retailer’s “first mall-based Co-op stores…are among the finest retail centers in the country” and that both locations “will carry an assortment of men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, shoes and cosmetics that is reflective of the merchandise in our flagship store Co-op departments and in our other freestanding Co-op locations.” Barneys currently operates three Co-op stores.
