– NEW DIRECTOR: Saks Inc. has named turnaround specialist Jerry W. Levin to its board. He will serve on the audit and finance committees. Levin, 63, is chairman and chief executive officer of JW Levin Partners LLC, a New York firm that specializes in rebuilding branded consumer product and service companies. Levin is also chairman of The Sharper Image. Previously, he was chairman and ceo of American Household Inc. (previously Sunbeam Corp.) and, before that, chairman and ceo of the Coleman Co. Inc., Revlon Inc. and the Burger King Corp.
– GUESS EUROPE PRESIDENT: Guess Inc. named Massimo Macchi, former chief executive officer and group executive vice president of Gianfranco Ferré, as president of Guess Europe, effective Dec. 13. In the new position, Macchi will oversee all aspects of the European business and spearhead the company’s strategic initiatives in the region as well as in the Middle East. A veteran of Italian luxury companies such as Bulgari Group, Gucci Group, Testoni Group and IT Holdings, he will report to Paul Marciano, Guess’ ceo and vice chairman.
– DARROW CLOSES FIRM: Vivienne Darrow, who ran her own executive search firm, Vivienne Darrow Associates, which specialized in the fashion industry for 28 years in New York, has closed her business. Darrow said she plans to consult with a few companies. Among her clients over the years were Chaus, Jones Apparel Group, Maggy London, Leslie Fay, Counterparts and Rafaella.
