– TIMES TWENTY: Brides magazine turned to its regulars to develop an initiative for Breast Cancer Awareness month this month. The magazine’s “Something Pink” campaign supports Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation, and involves more than 20 designers it routinely works with, including Vera Wang, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Nicole Miller, Badgley Mischka and Reem Acra. The magazine asked them to create pink weddings gowns (or at least include the color in some form) to be sold nationwide in bridal salons, with 10 percent of the proceeds going to Making Memories. In addition, the gowns will be featured in a 24-page portfolio in the November/December issue. Editor in chief Millie Martini Bratten said Lifetime Television came to the magazine’s photo shoot on Long Island and created a “video on-demand” that will give a behind-the-scenes look at the shoot, as well as interviews with de la Renta, Badgley Mischka and Miller, among others.
– NIKE GLOBAL DESIGN: Nike Inc. has named Sandy Bodecker, vice president of sport culture and a Nike veteran since 1982, as vice president of global design. Based in Beaverton, Ore., he will report to Nike brand president Charlie Denson. Dermott Cleary, former vice president for brand marketing for sport culture, succeeds Bodecker as vice president of sport culture.
– LAFAYETTE RISING: French department store chain Galeries Lafayette is blazing back on the expansion trail. The company on Friday opened its first new department store in three decades in the northern French city of Lille. “The opening shows the brand’s capacity for growth and development,” said Paul Delaoutre, Galeries Lafayette president. The 104,000-square-foot, three-level store is meant to appeal not only to locals, but also to draw international visitors from nearby Belgium and the U.K. Some 480 brands will be offered, including Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Guerlain and John Galliano. The store signals Galeries’ renewed expansion ambitions. A 160,000-square-foot Galeries store is expected to open in Dubai next year, and the chain also is prospecting in China.
– LACOSTE PROMOTION: Lacoste has promoted Dan Leonardi to brand director of Lacoste Leathergoods. Leonardi had been director of sales for the Americas for the Samsonite-Global Licensing Division for the past three years. Leonardi reports to Beppi Fremder, president of global licensing division for Samsonite and president and managing director for Samsonite Italy.
