LOS ANGELES — Glow Industries doesn’t think that J.Lo qualifies for a Glow of her own.

Glow, the Los Angeles-based firm that produces a bath and body care line and the Glow Scent, filed suit in federal court last week claiming that Lopez and her fragrance licensee, Coty Inc., infringed on its trademark through the use of the Glow by J.Lo name on the entertainer’s new fragrance.

Terri Williamson, owner of Glow Industries, who started the company three and half years ago, told WWD Friday, “This is our name and we went to great lengths to use this name. [The lawsuit] is about the confusion that arises when somebody else uses your name without permission. This is not about money; it’s about us retaining our name and her picking another one.”

The complaint, which specifically lists Lopez as a defendant because she owns the Glow by J.Lo trademark, asks for unspecified damages but, according to Glow Industries’ attorney Arthur Aaronson, primarily seeks an injunction to prevent J.Lo from using the moniker.

Sources said J.Lo’s camp maintains the Glow by J.Lo name is enough to distinguish the name from Glow Industries’ products.

“The proposed line of products will ultimately damage my client’s business plan,” said Aaronson.

Glow by J.Lo is set to roll out in September. Calls to Lopez’ publicist were not returned on Friday. A Coty spokeswoman had no comment on the pending litigation.

Glow Industries sells to stores nationwide, including its own namesake store in Los Angeles, select Nordstrom doors and boutiques at Ritz Carlton hotels.
