NEW YORK — In its first major executive move at Narciso Rodriguez since buying a 50 percent stake last month, Liz Claiborne Inc. has named Janice Sullivan as president of the designer firm.
She was previously president of Claiborne’s DKNY Jeans and DKNY Active divisions, and had been with the DKNY brand for 16 years. Prior to becoming president of the two brands last year, she served as vice president-general manager of DKNY Jeans and Active men’s and juniors.
Sullivan replaces Roberto Pesaro, who held the title of president and chief executive officer of Narciso Rodriguez until leaving in January after a 10-month stint.
Besides women’s wear, Rodriguez, who launched his namesake business 10 years ago, also offers men’s wear and fragrances in a licensing deal with Beauté Prestige International.
Claiborne, which owns brands such as Kate Spade, Juicy Couture, Ellen Tracy, Dana Buchman and Sigrid Olsen, paid $12 million for the stake in Rodriguez’s name and trademarks. William L. McComb, ceo of Claiborne, said last month the plan was to provide Rodriguez with the right resources to expand his collection. The conglomerate hopes to turn the label into a $100 million brand, which could include expanding its opening price points, as well as boosting the designer’s accessories business and exploring licensing opportunities.
