Top retailers, technology experts, authors and economists will converge at the Global Retailing Conference, April 10 and 11, at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Ariz.

The conference, themed “Brand New Thinking: The Innovation Leaders,” is organized by the Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing at the University of Arizona.

“Our goal is to provide attendees with access to technology, marketing and business ideas that are changing the face of retail worldwide,” said Melinda Burke, executive director of the center.

On the agenda: keynoter Terry J. Lundgren, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Macy’s Inc., and a graduate of the University of Arizona, and Carl E. Steidtmann, chief economist with Deloitte Research, discussing “the consumer-driven recession.”

Zappos.com ceo Tony Hsieh will itemize the “top 10 lessons learned in e-commerce” and Roger Farah, president and chief operating officer of Polo Ralph Lauren, will kick off the program discussing developing a global brand in Europe.

David Ginsberg, vice president, SAP Industry Solutions, will tackle “balancing financial performance with shopper needs,” and Daria Myers, president of Origins Natural Resources, will speak on “sustainable innovation: doing well by doing good.”

Other speakers scheduled are Inovis president and ceo Sean E. Feeney; Jan de Jong, Microsoft’s worldwide retail industry solutions manager; Christophe Heurtevent, marketing director, Microsoft France, and Marc Ecko, chairman and ceo of Marc Ecko Enterprises.

The Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing is part of the University of Arizona’s John and Doris Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Just three days before the start of the conference, Lundgren will receive the Carnegie Hall Medal of Excellence at a gala benefit at The Waldorf-Astoria in New York. The award, which will be presented to Lundgren by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, recognizes leadership in arts philanthropy.
