Seeking to speed its product development cycle and cut sample costs, Marc Jacobs International will install product life cycle management software this spring.

Seeking to speed its product development cycle and cut sample costs, Marc Jacobs International will install product life cycle management software this spring. The move is part of a wider trend in the fashion industry toward adopting the software, which stores product data in one place where everyone in a company has access to it.

Marc Jacobs chose TXTPerform from TXT e-solutions of Milan, a supply chain management company that is well known in Europe and has many luxury and fashion brands as customers, including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Celine and Loro Piano.

“The TXT PLM solution is ideally suited to manage the extremely short life cycles of our products,” a Marc Jacobs spokesman said in a prepared statement. “It’s very flexible and can be tailored to our immediate needs, then extended later.” The software is relatively quick to install — it takes less than three months — and TXT has experience in the luxury fashion industry, the spokesperson added.

The TXT software is modular and configurable. It includes a central repository for product information, assortment management, collection budgeting and features for communicating and codesigning with suppliers and retailers.

Marc Jacobs International expects to go live with the software around the beginning of May, said a spokesman for TXT e-solutions.
