NEW YORK — Perry Ellis International Inc. has appointed Mary Gleason president of licensing.

In her new role at the Miami-based company, Gleason is responsible for growing the firm’s $23 million licensing business through expansion into new product categories and markets. PEI has license agreements with more than 150 licensees. PEI licenses 20 brands through all distribution channels domestically and overseas, including Perry Ellis, Jantzen, Original Penguin and Gotcha.

In women’s, the Perry Ellis brand name is licensed for categories such as swimwear, outerwear, sunglasses and watches.

Before joining PEI, Gleason served as president of the Exeter Brands Group, a Nike subsidiary dedicated to building brands in the value retail channel. Earlier, Gleason served as president and chief executive officer of Group 3 Design, a full-service brand management company with a portfolio of nationally marketed brands including Starter, Bugle Boy and McKids.

Gleason reports to George Feldenkreis, chairman and chief executive officer of Perry Ellis International. She is based in the company’s New York office.
