NEW YORK — Vera Wang is starting to build her team for the Very Vera by Vera Wang line for Kohl’s.
The designer, who inked a deal with the retailer last August, has tapped Sara Dennis as senior vice president of the Vera Wang division for Kohl’s. Dennis was most recently vice president of product development at Liz Claiborne Apparel. Before that, she was at Calvin Klein Inc. where, as senior vice president, she worked on the Calvin Klein Jeans, Underwear and Swim divisions.
In the newly created role at the Vera Wang Group, Dennis is in charge of overseeing the merchandise that is being developed for Kohl’s in the apparel, home and accessories categories, with a launch slated for fall 2007. Her responsibilities range from design to product development, marketing and brand management.
In addition, Wang has hired Bill Mitchell as senior vice president of finance and operations for the Vera Wang Group, a new post. Mitchell joins from outerwear manufacturer S. Rothschild and Co., where he was chief financial officer. Before that, he was at Polo Ralph Lauren as vice president, finance-corporate. At Vera Wang, Mitchell’s responsibilities include overseeing finance, import and export, distribution, customer services and manufacturing resources.
Dennis and Mitchell both report to Wang, chief executive officer of the Vera Wang Group. “Our new strategic alliance with Kohl’s in the U.S., coupled with our global business expansion across bridal, ready-to-wear, the lavender label and contemporary business, and licensed products has created a need to expand our executive ranks,” Wang said in a statement.
