PARIS — Azzedine Alaïa will be introducing his first perfume.
He has inked a 13-year fragrance and cosmetics license with Beauté Prestige International, it was announced Tuesday.
“Beauté Prestige International corresponds perfectly to the spirit of the Alaïa house,” said the designer. “I am delighted to work with them in launching this new project. I have total confidence in Beauté Prestige International to accompany me in creating a perfume that interprets my work and my world.”
Rémy Gomez, BPI’s chief executive officer, called Alaïa “a sculptor, a virtuoso of the cut; his dresses are a ‘second skin.’”
The first Alaïa fragrance is expected to hit the market in 2015, according to a BPI spokeswoman.
BPI is the fragrance division of Shiseido, whose other licenses include Issey Miyake, Narciso Rodriguez, Elie Saab and Jean Paul Gaultier.
It has been widely anticipated that BPI would sign on some more labels, since its lucrative Gaultier fragrance license comes to an end in mid-2016 now that Puig has acquired the Gaultier fashion brand.
