LONDON — Cosmetic Executive Women U.K. feted Carolina Herrera’s career Monday, as well as those of a host of fixtures on the beauty scene here.
Herrera, whose namesake brand is controlled by Puig Beauty & Fashion Group, picked up a lifetime achiever award. Others recognized for their contributions to the beauty industry included Romy Fraser, founder of Neal’s Yard Remedies; Noella Gabriel, Elemis’ director of product and treatment development; Hilary Dart, managing director of Hilary Dart Associates, and Newby Hands, associate editor and health and beauty director of Harper’s Bazaar U.K.
Per Neuman, managing director of the Estée Lauder Cos. in the U.K. and Ireland, scooped a special industry award.
During the event, Robert McClatchie, managing director of Puig U.K., recited a speech penned by the late Enrique Puig, chairman of Puig Beauty & Fashion Group. “To work with Carolina is a pleasure,” he said.
“Two words sum her up — glamour and allure,” said journalist Lucia van der Post, who presented Herrera’s award. “I think this is something most of us aspire to.”
For the designer, who introduced her debut scent, Carolina Herrera Classic, in 1981 and now has a portfolio of 10 fragrances, it was an opportunity to reminisce.
“When I started my career as a fashion designer I always had in mind that one day I would create a scent,” she said. “Since my beginnings I had the chance to be surrounded by wonderful teams. They took the name of Herrera fragrances to new heights and tonight I want to say thank you.”
Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia. It’s really a show that celebrates that and the paisley design of India and its origin,” said Veronica Etro. #wwdfashion #mfw #ss18 (📷: @delphineachard)
