PARIS — Three years after the launch of Encre Noire, Lalique Parfums will introduce a feminine iteration, Encre Noire Pour Elle, starting in September.
“It’s a product that works very well,” said Dominique Daviaud, Lalique Parfums’ managing director, of the men’s scent. He added Encre Noire has been popular among women, so Lalique decided to create the female version.
Fragrance Resources’ Christine Nagel blended its juice, which is a riff on Encre Noire’s woody fragrance composition. Her challenge, explained Julie Carry, head of Lalique Parfums’ product development, was to create a feminine vetiver scent.
Encre Noire Pour Elle contains top notes of Sicilian bergamot, grains of Indonesian amber and freesia. In the heart are notes of Turkish rose, osmanthus and kephalis, while base notes include Haitian vetiver, Texan cedar and musks.
Company executives would not discuss sales projections, but industry sources estimate the scent will generate $17 million in sales during its first 12 months worldwide.
The launch is scheduled to start in Europe and the Middle East in September. U.S. retailers are expected to sell Encre Noire Pour Elle beginning in the spring.
In France, the 50-ml. eau de parfum spray will go for 69 euros, or $98.20 at current exchange, and the 100-ml. eau de parfum spray is to be sold for 89 euros, or $126.70. The 200-ml. body cream will be 38 euros, or $54.10. Ninety-nine limited edition crystal bottles containing 60 ml. of perfume extract that’s a woodier take on Encre Noire Pour Elle are to sell for 650 euros, or $925.30, each.
As is its annual tradition, Lalique is introducing limited edition fragrances in crystal bottles for 2010. For the women’s scent Lalique de Lalique, 1,500 flacons were produced. The design takes a cue from a fountain with a fish motif created by René Lalique. Containing 100 ml. of perfume extract, each sells for 980 euros, or $1,395. For the men’s fragrance Lalique Lion Pour Homme, the house designed a flacon capped with a scorpion motif. Five hundred bottles containing 30 ml. of the eau de parfum go for 960 euros, or $1,366.50, each.
Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia. It’s really a show that celebrates that and the paisley design of India and its origin,” said Veronica Etro. #wwdfashion #mfw #ss18 (📷: @delphineachard)
