BERLIN — Germany’s fragrance industry honored new and classic scents at the Duftstars awards gala here Friday night.
R&B diva Toni Braxton wowed the crowd with a powerful performance and her mini-clad figure, while British model-singer Jamie Burke, known for his appearances in CK One print and TV fragrance ads — and Calvin Klein Jeans spots — performed his song “We Are One,” which was commissioned for the CK One ads launched last year.
Lavinia Biagiotti, vice president of the Biagiotti Group fashion, accessories and fragrance house, served as honorary chair for the leisurely paced event.
The Fragrance Foundation Deutschland asked members of the industry to choose the best new releases and classics, and the public also voted for a People’s Prize.
Winners in the Exclusive category were Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and Marc Jacobs Lola, which tied with Narciso Rodriguez Essence. The Prestige prizes went to Dior’s Miss Dior Chérie L´Eau and Paco Rabanne 1 Million. Lifestyle nods were given to Kate Moss Vintage and David Beckham Signature Story for Him.
The People’s Prize was delivered to Lifestyle scents Christina Aguilera by Night and Mexx Black Man, as well as Prestige scents Boss Orange and Paco Rabanne 1 Million, the scent’s second win on the night. A prize for marketing went to Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne.
In a repeat of last year’s win, Chanel Allure and Jean Paul Gaultier’s Le Male both received the Classic Award.
A lifetime achievement award was bestowed upon Leonard Lauder, chairman emeritus of the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc. He was not on hand to accept the award, but thanked the crowd with a video message.
Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia.
