PARIS — A Clarins Fragrance Group spokeswoman had no comment Thursday regarding Oscar Pistorius, who has been the face of its Thierry Mugler Amen men’s scent since 2011.
The athlete was charged with a murder in his home in South Africa earlier in the day, according to international media.
Twenty-six-year-old Pistorius — who is the first double-amputee sprinter to compete in the Olympics — is known as “Blade Runner,” due to his carbon fiber artificial limbs. Pistorius won two gold medals and a silver at last year’s Paralympic Games in London. In the 2012 Olympics, he ran in the 4x400-meter relay and reached the 400-meter semifinal.
Pistorius first appeared in the Amen ad that came out in March 2011 worldwide. In the 15- and 30-second spots directed by Ali Mahdavi for digital media, Pistorius could be seen sprinting clutching a bottle of Amen. A single- and double-page print campaign also broke at that time.
Amen was the first scent for men created by Mugler in 1996.
