Posh and Becks in the Rain

The rainy weather didn't dampen the spirits of the Beckhams or the approximately 2,000 fans who showed up at Macy's for the couple's fragrance launch.

The rainy weather in New York Friday didn’t dampen the spirits of David and Victoria Beckham or the approximately 2,000 screaming fans who showed up at Macy’s Herald Square for the launch of the couple’s fragrance duo, Signature for Him and Signature for Her. Clad in a striped Tom Ford suit, David Beckham was quick to credit his Giambattista Valli-clad wife as the brains behind the fragrances, although Victoria Beckham insists that he is not giving himself deserved credit. “It’s great for me to be able to create a fragrance for him, but he is much more involved than he gives himself credit for,” she said. “David has such amazing taste.”

“She brings it back and we decide together,” he said with a quick grin.

Just 300 of the hysterical fans – all of whom purchased a $122 gift set – actually got to meet the pair, who seemed surprised by the turnout. “For us to get such a phenomenal turnout is fantastic,” Victoria said before heading out to greet the screaming masses. “We really weren’t expecting it. It’s an opportunity to meet lots of our fans, and the sales staff who have worked so hard on this project.”

The appearance, the first the couple has made together on behalf of their fragrances, did upwards of $35,000 in sales in just one hour, according to industry sources. Sources estimated the scents will do $50 million globally in its first year on counter, which would make the fragrances Coty Beauty’s biggest launch ever.

Victoria Beckham noted that she and David are already at work on a pair of flankers for the brand, due next September, but declined to give details.
