Prada is adding a new layer to its Ephemeral Infusion Collection in April.
Infusion de Tubéreuse for women and Infusion de Vétiver for men both draw notes and inspiration from the Iris fragrance from Prada’s Exclusive Scents range, launched in 2003, noted Didier Maine de Biran, general manager of Puig North America.
“Every year, we take one of the notes and explore it in a different direction,” he said, adding the range has become a pillar. “The idea is to re-create a whole new world around that note, yet tie it to the original.”
“The Ephemeral Infusions are almost as a short summary for the year they come out — a smell to remember, that remembers and illustrates an ingredient,” said Givaudan’s Daniela Andrier, who created the scents. “The olfactive approach is similar, but the aesthetics change with every ingredient. The idea of Infusion is almost as an imprint of the chosen material in water, a kind of watercolor fragrance reworked with colorful pastel crayon.”
Infusion de Tubéreuse, an eau de parfum, is comprised of Indian tuberose, petitgrain bigarade, Italian blood orange and dynamone. Infusion De Vétiver, an eau de toilette, is a combination of vetiver, tarragon, Madagascan pepper and purple ginger.
“Infusion de Tubéreuse uses the fresh green buds of tuberose, rather than the very sweet lactonique mature petals,” said Andrier. “Petitgrain bigaradier is reminiscent of the smell of green leaves after the rain, and blood orange oil conveys sparkling freshness. Dynamone, a very rare and noble ingredient obtained by reworking in different processes brings sensuality. Vétiver uses the very tender green aspects of vetiver, rather than the burnt woody part. On top, there is the green anisic smell of tarragon, than the warmth and alluring black pepper of Madagascar, combined with purple ginger, whose smell is reminiscent of grapefruit and evokes the grapefruit part of vetiver.”
Infusion de Tubéreuse is available in 50 ml., 100 ml. and 200 ml. sizes for $74, $100 and $135, respectively, as well as a body lotion, $52, and a shower gel, $58. Infusion de Vétiver is available in 50 ml., 100 ml. and 200 ml. sizes for $54, $74 and $100 respectively, as well as a shower gel, $58. They will be available in about 300 doors in the U.S., including Prada boutiques, Neiman Marcus, Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.
The scents feature archival Prada prints both on the bottles themselves and on outer packaging, noted Vanita Sabnani, vice president of marketing. Infusion De Tubéreuse’s design is a tuberose mosaic with degradé mauve leaves; Vétiver is tied to chains of hexagons.
While none of the executives would discuss projected sales, industry sources estimated that the new additions would do about $5 million at retail.
