Simple, subtle, sophisticated. These scents prove you don’t have to shout to be heard.
L’Occitane Thé Blanc Opening with mellow yet smoky white tea extracts, a mix of zesty bitter orange, pink grapefruit and pink peppercorn brings a sense of mystery to tea, leaving a hint of fresh scent in its wake. ($42; L’Occitane) Antonia’s Flowers Sagni del Mare Translated as “dreams of the sea,” this fruity, watery scent blends bergamot, rhubarb and blackberry with orange flowers and vanilla. ($60; Barneys)
Roger & Gallet Bamboo Gentle Fragrant Water Light yet bold, this combines citrus notes of grapefruit and mandarin, green notes of fig and bamboo and woodsy notes of musk and cedar. ($38; beautyexclusive.com)
Jo Malone White Jasmine & Mint Inspired by her British background, Jo Malone marries jasmine and mint with coriander, chamomile and vetiver to evoke the feel of a traditional English garden. ($50-$95; Saks)
Susanne Lang Midnight Orchid 72 Perfect for cooler temperatures and longer nights: Orchids that bloom only at midnight and Egyptian jasmine provide a spicy floral accord, softened by musk and vanilla. ($50; Kitson) Grassroots World of Your Own There’s nothing like the warmth of vanilla to suggest moments of simple pleasure. By blending in spicy ginger and ylang-ylang, this refrains from becoming cloyingly sweet. ($23.50; Kohl’s)
Gap Washed Cotton Many scents have tried to capture that elusive “clean laundry” feeling and made the mistake of veering too far into Tide territory. Not so this, which bottles the sensation of freshly cleaned linens. ($28; Gap Body)
Prada Infusion D’Iris Like Prada’s coveted clothing, with its spare lines and impeccable attention to detail, this employs the finest extracts: a blend of orange blossom, galbanum and incense tempered by a light iris heart note. ($67-$350; Neiman Marcus)
Fresh Mangosteen Thanks to its unusually high antioxidant content, mangosteen is known as the “queen of all fruit.” Its juicy scent is joined with lemon, peony and musk for a light and bright feeling. ($65; Saks, Sephora)
