Whether playing on notes of violet or jasmine, or even candy apples and cashmere woods, today's orientals run the gamut from musky to sparkling, muted to audacious.

Calvin Klein Secret Obsession
Calvin Klein’s newest Obsession is both subtle and sensuous, even if its ad campaign starring actress Eva Mendez isn’t. A combination of exotic plum, mace, rose, jasmine, orange flower and tuberose blends with cashmere woods, burnt amber, Madagascan vanilla and Australian sandalwood for a warm, sophisticated effect. $72, department stores.

Creed Love in Black
An ode to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, this violet oriental pays tribute to her fashionable and peripatetic life. Virginia cedar, Greek wildflowers, Italian violets and irises and French black currant reference her glamorous travels and residences. The scent also honors her philanthropic bent: A portion of the proceeds will benefit the World Wildlife Foundation. $350, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks.

Ralph Lauren Notorious
Inspired by film noir sirens, this provocative scent plays both hot and cool, with top notes of black currant, spicy pink peppercorn and Italian bergamot; a heart of chocolate cosmos flowers, white frost peonies and fiery carnation, and a base of vintage patchouli, vannis and orris. Femme fatale Laetitia Casta is the fragrance’s perfectly cast muse. $85, department stores.

Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle Maurice Roucel Dans Tes Bras
Lush and intimate, this scent evokes warm skin with intense sandalwood, patchouli, incense and Cashmeran. The musky, woody blend gets a wash of flowers with jasmine, violet, bergamot, heliotrope—and a glimmer of spice from clove and white musk. $220, Barneys, barneys.com.

Beckham Signature for Her
David and Victoria Beckham, the tabs’ favorite power glitterati couple, take on women’s fragrance with a fruity floral oriental. Anis flower and candy apple are laced with orchid, heliotrope and vanilla, all bottled, natch, in Victoria’s favorite pink with silver plating and the Beckham family crest. $62, department stores.

Kenzo Amour Le Parfum
Kenzo’s latest fragrance bottles the exotic East in a matte gold flacon. Classic indigenous ingredients like rice, amber and frangipani mix with patchouli, vanilla and Siamese benzoin balm to evoke the beauty of Southeast Asia. $65, Sephora.
