Hair accessories had their crowning moment—both literally and figuratively—during the fall 2011 couture season. At Valentino, Guido Palau topped models’ low-slung, wispy buns with delicate tiaras spangled with tiny metallic flowers. “It’s like a Russian princess,” he said, of the look.
Plucky plumage of all shapes, sizes and colors featured extensively in hairstyles by Odile Gilbert for both Alexis Mabille and Jean Paul Gaultier.
Franco Gobbi gleaned inspiration from geishas at Giorgio Armani Privé, but it wasn’t too literal a rendition. Instead, he injected a modern, androgynous rock ’n’ roll quality to the sleek style that was topped with whimsical hats and fascinators by Philip Treacy.
Geometric hats and metallic pieces also topped o! voluminous hairstyles at Christian Dior. “It’s very sculptural, architectural,” said the look’s creator, Orlando Pita.
At Giambattista Valli, Pita encircled models’ heads with wide bands—in black, white or red—giving an ultra-feminine, almost modern-day flapper feel.
In honor of Rihanna’s 30th birthday, we took a look back at an interview with the Barbados-native when she was just 18 years old. Here, she talked about her second album, “A Girl Like Me” in 2006. “I want to be me. I want people to fall in love with who Rihanna is, and that’s why I want the album to be about me so people can really find out who this girl Rihanna is, because they only know the ‘Pon de Replay’ girl.” Fast forward 12 years, and she’s released six more albums and has become a powerhouse in both the fashion and music industries. Happy birthday, @badgalriri 🎈(📷: Pavel Antonov) #wwdarchive
For @simonerocha_‘s fall show, hairstylist @jamespecis created a look inspired by the painter John Constable. Models’ hair was pulled back, tied into knots and topped off with a bow. (📷: @kukukuba) #wwdbeauty #lfw
