Katie Holmes is the star of a promotional short film for John Frieda Professional Hair Care’s new at-home foam hair color line to premiere tonight at Lavo nightclub in Manhattan.
The film, called “The Decision,” is several minutes long and centers around a famous actress, Joan Hudson (played by Holmes), who makes the choice to split from her colorist to color her hair herself using Precision Foam Colour by John Frieda. The film looks to address the anxiety that goes along with the decision of coloring hair at home. It will serve in the same vein as short films by Lanvin for H&M and Chanel Coco Mademoiselle, which tell a brief story and promote a brand at the same time. Foam hair color is emerging as a beauty trend in the hair coloring category in 2011, as versions from Clairol, L’Oréal and Samy have also hit the market this year.
Coloring hair at home between salon visits has become an acceptable regimen, especially during the last two years as the recession hit, often promoted by colorists themselves, such as celebrity colorist Marie Robinson for Clairol’s Root Touch-Up. Elle’s creative director, Joe Zee, will serve as the unofficial host of the event, at 39 East 58th Street, which is expecting celebrities Holmes, Mary Louise Parker, Alison Brie, Rose Byrne and several of the Real Housewives of New York to attend. Bill Gentner, president and chief executive officer of Kao Brands Company, which owns John Frieda Professional Hair Care, is also expected.
Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia.
