L’Oréal Paris has just launched a mobile app called My L’Oréal Colorist, designed to provide consumers with a simulated professional hair-color consultation. It is available through iTunes. After the free download, users can either scan the barcode of a L’Oréal hair-color product or answer several questions to receive a shade recommendation. Customers can also specify their desired permanence, tone and form (cream, gel or foam). The app is compatible with five of L’Oréal’s 17 hair-color brands: Superior Preference, Excellence Crème, Féria, Healthy Look Crème Gloss Color and Sublime Mousse by Healthy Look (each product retails for less than $10). The brand is further personalizing the process of choosing shades by allowing participants to share the colors they are considering on Facebook. Although L’Oréal has previously offered short questionnaires aimed at providing shopping advice on its Web site, the company’s newest app is its most specific digital product matching platform to date.
